I just want to clarify that a hysteroscopy is simply the term for the procedure of looking at the inside of the uterus with a scope. It's typically a part of the ablation procedure, even if it's not explicitly called out. And as far as the Essure, a hysteroscopy is always a part of the procedure. The insertion tool and hysteroscope are integrated, so that the doctor can see where he/she is placing the coils.

As far as the D&C, the decision can vary from one doctor to another, and one patient to another. I've never had a D&C, but that may be the reason for changing to a general anesthesia. I had my ablation (ThermaChoice, not Novasure) and Essure done with just a local anesthesia, and was glad that I didn't need general. Personal preference.

Take care,
