Hello, I read here a lot before I had my Novasure ablation this past Tuesday (2/19/13). While I found the information helpful, a lot of it was depressingly negative. I decided that many more women seek out a forum when they're unhappy with the results rather when everything goes well. I almost chickened out of the procedure because of comments I'd read here and on a few other sites. I'm so glad I didn't. I'm 44 and have one son. Over the past year, my period became longer and heavier to the point I didn't know when one stopped and the next started. My doctor told me I had to do something because I am extremely anemic. She laid out the options and I picked ablation. I also had a hysteroscopy and d&c.
My procedure was scheduled for 2pm under general anesthesia in outpatient surgery at a hospital. I think it started a bit late. I was home by 5:15. I was not groggy from the anesthesia and had no pain, not even cramping. I stopped at the grocery store and pharmacy on my way home. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. It never did. I took two ibuprofen out of fear of pain and read a book. I had already scheduled the next day off from work but could have easily gone to work. (I'm an attorney). My doctor placed no physical restrictions and said I could resume my athletic lifestyle right away. Since Tuesday, I've run 15 miles and lifted weights everyday but Wednesday. I would have run and played tennis on Wednesday but it snowed. I decided my lighter uterus made me faster because I broke some personal best records.
Still no cramping, very little discharge, and no bleeding at all. I plan to throw a party to celebrate my doctor and her mad skillz with the Novasure wand. I hope my period doesn't come back but even if it does, I can imagine regretting this attempt to avoid a hysterectomy.
