I had a uterine ablation using the heated balloon method on Feb 13th 2013, and also the Mirena iud put in at the same time.
I had been advised to expect bleeding and cramping for a "while" (as varies how long and how much for everyone) and no sex, no tampons, no hottub, no douching, no streneous lifting exertions for minimum four weeks. After that, do so if feel up to.
The reason why I got the ablation and Mirena was because since I went off birthcontrol pills when I was 30 (I'm 46 now) and got my tubes tied, since than have had incrediable heavy periods lasting about 5 to 7 days heavy flow and couple days light, and cramping before and during with a 25 day cycle from start to start of the next(with bc pills about three days light barely noticable).Went off pills cause was a smoker at that time, doc would not renew unless I quit smoking, and wasn't ever going to have kids anyways.
The last few years have seen periods starts at all different times, and cramping getting even worse (didn't think it was possible), with the last six months even more agony including about almost constant preperiod-type cramping and massive massive emotional uncontrolable as well as spotting in between "periods", and "period" type flow about every two weeks for a few days and than back to spotting with the occasional "normal" day of nothing. I'm fairly physically active, in good shape, nonsmoker and noncaffiene the last 3 years.
After the ablation, pain and cramping comparable to my periods only the first couple days, then tapered off with the occaisional really painful gotchas cramping that would put me to my knees about once or twice an hour or two for 10 -15 minutes, but just ugh feeling and some cramping. Minimal spotting, mainly brownish with some pink, wore liners only. I was quite happy thinking yeaaa this ain't so bad!!
Its been two weeks since the ablation as of yesterday Wednesday.
Starting this past monday a couple days ago, the cramping and color of the discharge has intensified - much more redder and much much more cramping back to where I can barely concentrate on anything (after years of this, I have learned to do so, but this be intense), but not a lot more flow, maybe a teaspoon every 4-6 hours. Am I just getting my "period"?
The questions I have are: But isn't my uterus still "healing" from the burnout, so how can there be a period happening so soon after the ablation? Or does this mean somethings not right cause the cramps and flow have gotten worse not better? I've been searching for medical info to understand the process, but haven't figured out and hoping someone here can help me understand.
