Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I had an endometrial ablation on December 12, 2014. Prior to the procedure, I was taking progesterone for about 10 years to stop my periods from happening altogether because I had been diagnosed with menoraggia (sp?) and adenomyosis. Over the years, I was taking anywhere from .25 mg every other day, to 10 mg per day, as I would start having breakthrough bleeding and they would increase my dose. The 10 mg daily was what I was taking at the time of my procedure, and I was instructed to stop taking it a day before the procedure.
The first couple days after the procedure were fine - I had the watery blood and some cramping for about two and a half weeks, but not too bad. Two days after the procedure I started to experience 24 hour per day nausea, followed by numerous incidents of throwing up. I was given zofran for the nausea, which helped, but made me completely tired and incapacitated. My doctor decided I should not have stopped the hormone so abruptly, and they put me back on, with a plan to slowly taper off of it. So, I'm back on the hormone and every two weeks, I lower my dose a little bit. After being back on 7.5 mg daily of the hormone, I started to stabilize and feel better after a couple of weeks.
On January 18th, much to my surprise, I started bleeding. The blood was like regular period blood - between bright red and sometimes very dark brown. I had lots of clots and terrible cramps, with the occasional headache. It was like having a regular period to me. As of today (7 days later), I am still bleeding with cramps, and clots. It's a decent amount of blood and is nothing like the watery blood I had after the procedure. I have been waiting to contact my doctor to see how long it lasts, but I usually get the same party line from her, "Oh, don't worry that's just normal".
On Wednesday of the last week, I was instructed to lower my dose of progesterone to 5 mg. After about two days, I began having the constant nausea again (no actual vomiting though), but on top of that I am having some of the most severe cramping I have ever had in my life. There is extreme pressure and pain in my abdominal region (to the point that it makes me moan in pain). It kind of feels like I either have to poop (and can't), or my abdomen is going to explode "Alien" style (from the movie).
All that said, can anyone here give me some idea if this is normal? It occurred to me that this might be my first period since the procedure, but I am still on the progesterone, so any bleeding should be minimal anyway. Also, my understanding after the procedure was that I would have no period or a very "light and airy" period. I'm completely perplexed and I would like to have some insight besides from just my doctor. She's a good doctor, but she's more interested in delivering babies, I think, than taking care of this sort of ailment.
Thanks in advance.
